Gru once had the harebrained idea to tunnel below the surface of the planet in order to discover an easier way to take over the world, but instead all he found was a temple of doom and a bunch of costumed minions riding around on mine carts like banana headed fools.
They looked like they were having a lot of fun down there, and Gru really needed a break from his plotting and scheming, so he decided to play along with the little yellow guys and give them something to be afraid of.
