Walking in the big cities of Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe, ...), one notices very quickly the interest of Japanese people for gastronomy. Between the restaurants of ramen and sushi, Izakaya has its place entirely.
What is an Izakaya? It is a Japanese style bar, where each group is gathered in a small warm room. Between the salaryman and the students, the Izakaya is a type of bar which is not about to disappear.
Generally, an Izakaya offers two things: alcohol and delicious food. Sometimes sushi, tempura, maki, omuraisu, ... Many dishes are to be enjoyed with friends! Have a cold beer, enjoy a shrimp tempura and let the evening go by.The heat of the summer evenings does not prevent the customers from tasting a good beer and enjoying the unusual atmosphere of Izakaya.
For me, the best Izakayas have 2 advantages over their competing bars:
• The first, the tabehoudai: in other words, the "bar with food at will". Imagine eating what you want for one or two hours! I remember an izakaya that made yakiniku at will: meat dishes to be heated on a Korean barbecue. A delicacy!
• The second one, nomihoudai: the complement of the food, that is to say "drink at will". Beware of mixtures! It very often happens that Japanese people abuse it and find themselves sleeping outside in front of a Shinto temple.
Together, the tabenomihoudai, it is thus a good evening in perspective for a reasonable sum!
