Diamonds represent the Vassals or Merchants. A strong self-contained shape. The grid and angular shapes represent towns and the roads traveled by merchants. The interconnected arms are the connection of a holder of land by feudal tenure with their tenants. In French legend, the suits represent the four classes. I was inspired to redesign the shape to capture the class and express their place in society.
