In 2008, when America was hurting as one nation, I spontaneously painted North America, Turtle Island, red to express love for my homeland. The shirt was barely dry when the doorbell rang. Instead of ignoring the ring I grabbed my newly painted shirt and hurried to answer, finding two Jehovah's witnesses. We spoke briefly and I then thanked them for their desire to make the world a better place but that I was on a different path. I appreciated that they did not push and as they politely left, one surprised me by saying, "I like your shirt!"
